Brockville Rifles Hosted 48th Annual Sgt Rick Foldeak Memorial Hockey Tournament This Past Weekend

Brockville – This past weekend the Brockville Rifles hosted the 48th Annual Sgt Rick Foldeak Memorial Hockey Tournament. This year there were 18 teams from 3rd Canadian Division and 5th Canadian Division.

The opening ceremonies were held at the Memorial Center on Friday, March 31st. The Royal Canadian Branch 96 Flag Party and their pipers lead the procession of honoured guests which included: Hon Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, His Worship Matt Wren Mayor of Brockville, LCol Max Baxter and CWO James Newell representing 33 Canadian Brigade Group, and Hon LCol Anne Johnston, LCol Dave Beyer and CWO Steve Cunningham representing The Brockville Rifles.

The tournament opened with The Brockville Rifles up against the 30th Field RCA. Throughout the tournament, the round-robin games were played at both the Memorial Centre and Youth Arena throughout Friday and Saturday.

During the Saturday night banquet, the individual awards were held with the following winners:

– Best Defenceman – Josh Spratt from the PWOR
– Best Female Player – Victoria Komel from The Ontario Regiment
– Best Goaltender – Justin Chaston from The Argylls and Grayson Templeton from 4 RCR
– Most Sportsman- Lafreniere of the Cameron Highlanders
– Most Valuable Player – Nathan Rhoden from The Ontario Regiment
– Top Rookie – Tyler Pappas from the 30th Field RCA

Once the round-robin was completed on Saturday, the Divisional Semi-finals started to play early Sunday morning, and with the winners, the Division Finals were set. The Grout Division had the Brockville Rifles vs the RHFC, the Row Division saw the PWOR vs 4 RCR, the Pakenham Division match-up was The GGFG vs 31 CER and the Delaney Division had the Brock/PWOR team go up against the Argylls.

RHFC advanced to the Amiens Conference against the PWOR, with the PWOR winning the Conference Championship. The GGFG advanced to the Pursuit to Mons Conference against The Argylls with the Argylls becoming the Conference Champions.

The final game would see the PWOR play the Argylls for the Foldeak Tournament Championship. The game saw lots of end-to-end action but at the end of the 3rd period, the PWOR proved to be the better team and won the 48th Annual Sgt Rick Foldeak Memorial Tournament.
