Brockville – Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands celebrated its 25th anniversary on Sunday at its ReStore location in Elizabethtown-Kitley just north of Brockville.
The event ran from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and featured a BBQ, bouncy castles for the kids, a display by the Elizabethtown-Kitley Fire Department, silent and live auctions, live music by The Lads, Liam Deery and Alan Duffy and more.
As well, as speeches by local dignitaries including, Brant Burrows, Mayor of Elizabethtown-Kitley, Brockville Mayor, Matt Wren, Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark, and Julia Deans, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Canada.
As well, during the event, MPP Clark officially announced an $11,200 Resilient Communities Fund grant they received from the Ontarty Comes Out for io Trillium Foundation (OTF) in March. Which will be used to create a strategic plan that will be a vital tool in guiding the organization in the coming years.
In addition, a special dedication and plaque unveiling was held to honour the memory of the Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands founder, Valerie Kines. On hand for the dedication was Bob Gollinger, who served on the first board with Valerie and her two sons.
To date, there have been 18 homes built across Leeds & Grenville. The Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands, in conjunction with Habitat Greater Ottawa, is currently completing a 15-unit condominium project in North Grenville.
