Geotechnical Studies: Summer 2023 Along the Rideau Canal National Historic Site

Smiths Falls – June 28, 2023 – In the coming weeks, Parks Canada will be conducting geotechnical studies at some of our dams along the Rideau Canal.

This includes obtaining and testing samples from soil and concrete and conducting visual inspections to ensure continued operability.

Studies along the Rideau Canal

Parks Canada would like to advise residents and visitors of the following time windows for geotechnical studies along the Rideau Canal, weather permitting:

  • June 26 to June 29 Long Island Dam (Manotick)
  • June 29 to July 6 Manotick Dam (Manotick)
  • July 7 to July 12 Chaffeys Lock Dam (Chaffeys Lock)
  • July 13 to July 21 Davis Lock Dam (Elgin)

These studies will not impact vehicular traffic or boat navigation. Residents and visitors may observe workers and equipment at these sites and may hear some drilling during sample collection. Parks Canada wishes to thank the public for their understanding.
