Good afternoon Hometown TV12 viewers,
Meta (Facebook, Instagram) has notified Hometown TV12 that you will no longer see our news articles, postings, etc. on our Facebook page, Instagram account or google us on Google so long as you live in Canada.
From Meta: “In response to Canada’s new Online News Act, people in Canada will no longer view or share news on Facebook and Instagram, including news content posted by news outlets. In addition, people in Canada will no longer see links or content from any news outlet Pages or Accounts.”
This means links to news articles and other content posted by Canadian publishers, broadcasters and international outlets will no longer be viewable to people accessing the social-media platforms in Canada.
Meta said Tuesday that within a few weeks, it will remove news for all Canadian users of its popular Facebook and Instagram platforms.
How does this affect Hometown TV12? Well, not really sure at the moment, but I expect in the next couple of weeks you won’t see any of our Facebook or Instagram postings, which is really frustrating as a small business we use social media to get people to our site.
Plus it is a fairly easy way to connect with our viewers.
What does this mean for you? Well, it means Facebook is no longer a source of local or national news. The rollout is slowly building so it won’t be immediate, your feed if you follow multiple news outlets may look the same for a while longer, but it’s happening.
I am working on setting up an e-mail signup for our daily headlines with links to the stories we post to our website for those that are interested.
You can visit us directly and bookmark us at http://www.hometowntv12.ca and still follow us on Twitter for now at https://twitter.com/HometownTV12
Thank you for your support of Hometown TV12!
