Lyndhurst – This past weekend, September 16th & 17th, the first Women of Fire Event (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61551006402390) was held at the Leeds Thousands Islands Regional Training Centre in Lyndhurst.
This event was an empowering weekend to bring together females from across the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville who have an interest in the fire service. The participants were instructed by an all-female group of firefighters from across the United Counties.
There were various stations that each platoon of firefighters attended including a car fire prop, search & rescue scenario, fire hose handling techniques, auto extrication (using the Jaws of Life) and a fire prevention & medical portion that showcased a few of the duties of firefighters.
The participants were welcomed with remarks from Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Chief Michael Prior, along with Leeds 1000 Islands Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke and MPP Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes Steve Clark.
