Brockville – The new pavilion set for Refugee Island, one of the City of Brockville’s owned islands, has now been completed by JIM Construction Inc.
The construction company posted photos of the new pavilion on their Facebook page.
It has been a long process to get the pavilion built. The plan started before COVID with fundraising for the new pavilion done through the popular Refugee Island Breakfast through volunteers and corporate sponsors.
The cement pad was put in before COVID, but the rest of the construction was delayed for a few years due to COVID. Construction on the pavilion itself began on October 17th of this year.
The Island Breakfast Committee was created in 2014 to organize and run the annual Island Breakfast, a popular summer event.
The Island Breakfast is a unique opportunity for citizens and visitors, who may not otherwise have access to the islands, to enjoy breakfast on Brockville’s Refugee Island and enjoy river life.
The net proceeds from the breakfast events will be used to build a shelter, upgrade bathrooms and develop camping sites on Refugee Island.
The first project was to build a permanent picnic pavilion on the Island.
