Public Assistance Requested In Investigation
Montague Township – The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after the body of a missing man was found adjacent to Highway 15 near Smiths Falls.
Steven TATE, age 34 of Montague Township had been reported missing on November 4, 2023. He was last seen alive on the same date in the early morning hours.
A body was located on November 8, 2023, by OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and has now been confirmed as that of Steven TATE. Highway 15 was closed for some time while Technical Collision Investigators and a Collision Reconstructionist assisted with the investigation.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
There is believed to be no threat to public safety.
