ServiceOntario Pilot Program Expands to More Municipalities
BROCKVILLE – The Ontario government is making life easier for people who want to get married by putting marriage licence applications online as a ServiceOntario pilot program in Brockville.
“This latest expansion of our Marriage Licence Online Application will make it easier and more convenient for Ontario couples to get married than ever before,” said Todd McCarthy, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery. “This is just one of the many examples of our government’s commitment to building simpler, faster, and better-to-use services that save Ontarians their precious time and effort.
Now, soon-to-be-married couples can apply for a licence online through a secure portal and submit their identification and supporting documentation electronically, before picking the licence up in person.
Municipalities issue provincial marriage licences. Using the new system, couples can submit their documents electronically to the participating municipality. The municipality ensures the application is correct and complete and then the applicant can pick up the licence. The online process minimizes the risk of errors, is efficient, saves time and reduces paper for the municipality and the applicant.
“I’m pleased that Brockville has been chosen to participate in this pilot program,” said Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. “Our region is part of a project that will, ultimately benefit soon-to-be-married couples across the province and will make this process a simpler and more customer-friendly experience.
