Athens – The Thousand Islands Watershed Land Trust (TIWLT) received $100,000 from the Government of Canada’s Community Service Recovery Fund on Friday, December 1st at the Glen Elbe Learning Centre.
Originally announced at this year’s Brockville & Area Community Foundation 2023 Grant Ceremony held on November 29th in Maitland, Eric Wang from the Brockville & Area Community Foundation was on hand on Friday to deliver the funding to the TIWLT.
“We are very grateful to Erik Wang of the Brockville and Area Community Foundation for delivering this funding which will go towards rebuilding and expanding our marketing and communications infrastructure that was devastated by COVID closures.”
Also in attendance were Ron Ferguson, John McAllister, Cameron Jones, Lauren Levac, and Brent Brown from the Upper Canada District School Board who attended the announcement ceremony and have been key partners in their education initiatives according to officials with TIWLT.
As well, there were the senior art students from Athens District High School who were working on a special species at risk art project at the Glen Elbe Learning Centre.
This funding will allow the TIWLT to develop effective communications for the community and educators on how to mitigate the effects of climate change locally and reverse local losses to biodiversity.
