Brockville – Brockville’s former Woolworth’s property will be torn down and replaced with a nine-storey building housing 66 rental units, in plans unveiled at Brockville’s city hall on Wednesday.
At a media event, Brockville Mayor Matt Wren welcomed the “transformational investment” in the King Street West site by the Ottawa-based Caber Group of Companies.
The project, which could see construction start in 2024, will “set our downtown core on a new trajectory,” added the mayor.
“I believe it will be a game-changer for our city, for our downtown core, and for the many small businesses who rely on us to create an environment where businesses can succeed,” said Wren.
The King Street building has been one of the downtown core’s biggest eyesores, and changing that situation has been a headache for city officials over decades.
