Impaired Driver Removed from Roads During RIDE Program:
On December 16, 2023, at about 7:30 pm, officers from the Brockville Police Service were conducting a RIDE Program, in the area of King St. E and Oxford Ave. A vehicle approached the
intersection proceeded through the RIDE checkpoint, and continued Eastbound on Hwy 2.
Officers followed the vehicle and observed it pull into a driveway. A 71-year-old, male, was operating the vehicle with a female passenger. The male was observed to be impaired by alcohol and placed under arrest. During the arrest, the male resisted and assaulted one of the officers but luckily, there were no serious injuries.
The male was taken for further testing and it was confirmed that he was impaired and operating the vehicle over the legal limit. His Driver’s licence was suspended, his vehicle impounded and charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired – blood alcohol over 80mg, flight from a peace officer, resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer. He was released with a future court date.
Stunt Driving While Fleeing RIDE Program:
On December 16, 2023, at about 9:30 pm, officers from the Brockville Police Service were conducting a RIDE Program, in the area of Stewart Blvd and Front Ave. During that time, a vehicle approached the checkpoint and then fled at a high rate of speed after squealing the vehicle’s tires.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle at a residence on Centre St. The driver of the vehicle was spoken to and there were no signs of impairment. The 24-year-old, male, was charged with stunt driving and his vehicle was impounded and his driver’s licence suspended.
