Brockville – The City of Brockville has started conducting regular tree trimming cycles.
With an effort to be more proactive and provide a better service, City Council approved creating a new Arborist position and the purchase of necessary equipment and vehicles earlier in 2023 during the regular budget process. As part of this work, regular maintenance will take place to address areas of concern and take preventative measures.
This regular maintenance consists of:
- Trimming and removing dead wood from City-owned trees
- Tree trimming to achieve clearance from roads, sidewalks, and other structures
- Trimming around street lights and traffic signals as needed.
The city has been divided up into 16 zones, numbered numerically from the northwest section down to the southwest section, with plans to complete maintenance inside 4 zones each year. Zones will be selected based on tree conditions and workload for each area, and not by numerical order according to the map numbers. Maintenance has begun in Zone 2, with the next three zones to be selected shortly as the work progresses and we learn more about timelines and outcomes. Please refer to our News item on the same subject for updates as we will add to that notice as maintenance progresses into the next zone.
The 16 zones are shown in the photo below, and are as follows:
- Northwest section of the city, west of Windsor Drive and north of Laurier Boulevard (and Victoria Road)
- North of Laurier Boulevard between Windsor Drive to the west and the CP railway tracks on the east (maintenance has begun in this zone)
