Brockville – On February 13, 2024, at about 1:15 am, a Brockville Police officer attempted to perform a motor vehicle stop on a female operating a Quebec-plated vehicle, in the wrong direction, on the one-way section of William St.
As the officer followed he observed other behaviours that drew concern to the driver’s sobriety. As he attempted to stop the vehicle, she made a U-turn and attempted to flee the area. The officer made several demands to her through an open window to stop, however, she yelled at the officer and fled.
The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed in a manner that was dangerous to the public, making no attempt to stop for stop signs. A short time later other officers responded to the area in search of the suspect. The suspect vehicle was located in the area of Ormond St. and boxed in by officers preventing it from fleeing any further.
The driver was identified as a 38-year-old, woman from Quebec. She was not cooperative with the police when asked to exit the vehicle. Officers were able to get the door unlocked and she was taken into custody. She continued to struggle, yell and swear as she was resistant.
Her vehicle was towed from the roadway and she was held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of flight from police, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, and various other traffic-related offences including; driving the wrong way, disobeying a stop sign, driving a motor vehicle with no licence and insurance related offences.
