Kemptville – A couple of late-in-the-game turnovers cost the Brockville Braves their win as they fell to the Kemptville 73s 4 – 3 in overtime Wednesday night in CCHL action.
Sixteen-year-old Peter Legostaev played 3 games in 4 days for the Smiths Falls Jr. Bears in the EOJHL playoffs, then suited up for the Braves last night and scored a beauty just seconds after Kemptville had regained the lead.
The 73s were on the board first with a goal by Trey Wandall at 3:54 in the first period. The Braves would score their first goal of the game in the first from Thomas Cormier at 13:26 in the period.
Kemptville picked up their second goal of the game in the second period from Parker Holmes at 3:27. Brockville’s Peter Legostaev scored at 3:48 in the period with an assist going to Jesse Lumsden and then at 7:28, Kayden Buller scored a goal to give Brockville the lead at the end of the second 3-2. Assists went to
Jesse Lumsden and Ethan Seibert.
In the third period, Kemptville would tie it at 3-3 after a goal from Tyler Melvin at 17:40 sending the game to overtime.
At 1:09 in overtime, the 73s’ Tanner Fennell would score the winning goal for Kemptville.
The 73s outshot the Braves 39 to 18 during the game.
This Friday, Brockville will host the Hawkesbury Hawks at the Memorial Centre. Game time is 7:30 pm.
