Brockville – The Brockville Fire Department announced on Monday that they will be hosting their inaugural girl’s firefighter camp to be held this July.
The initiative is aimed at young women aged 15-18 and hopes to encourage more female firefighters to join the fire department.
The camp is set to take place July 3-5, 2024.
Back in February, Brockville Fire Chief Melanie Jones, the city’s first female fire chief approached city council to help fund the first girl’s firefighter camp. Jones ran a similar camp while with the Kingston Fire & Rescue that continues to be held.
City councillors unanimously approved funding for the girl’s firefighter camp for this July at this meeting.
More information and details still to come about the camp.
