Brockville – The once-in-a-lifetime Solar Eclipse event is happening on April 8, 2024, where a remarkable alignment of the Sun, Moon, and Earth will occur, resulting in a total solar eclipse.
The absolute best views of the April 8th solar eclipse are expected along a roughly 200-kilometre-wide line stretching from the equatorial Pacific to the North Atlantic, crossing through Mexico, the United States, and eastern Canada including the City of Brockville.
This is the Path of Totality, and it is where the Moon will appear to completely cover the Sun. Observers on that path will witness an eerie darkness cast over the area as the Moon’s shadow sweeps past. They will also have a chance to see the Sun’s corona for themselves.
An all-day free community viewing event is planned at Blockhouse Island on April 8th and will see planned educational programs by The Aquatarium and Upper Canada School Board (UCDSB) and activities hosted by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) with live music by the Airforce Band.
Blockhouse Island will be closed for vehicle traffic all day on April 8th. Come and enjoy activities, events, music, vendors and more.
The eclipse will start at 2 pm and end at 4:30 pm. Total darkness occurs at 15:23:30 and lasts approximately 2 minutes and 45 seconds.
There will also be telescopes set up for everyone to enjoy a close-up view of the eclipse, and they will be handing out solar glasses to watch this astronomical phenomenon safely.
There will also be music, food, vendors, and special exhibits.
Solar eclipse glasses will be available at the event and will be distributed to the Brockville community in advance of the Solar Eclipse. Pick-up and distribution details to be announced very soon!
