Brockville – Brockville General Hospital’s (BGH) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) project reached a major milestone over the weekend as the two-piece modular building was craned into place on Saturday.
This is the first time any hospital in Ontario used this innovative prefabricated modular building solution for its MRI suite. Using modular buildings saves construction time.
The two building sections, each weighing approximately 110,000 pounds, arrived at the site early in the evening on Friday, March 22 after a 10-day, 1,700+ kilometre journey on two 130-foot tractor-trailers from Wisconsin.
Craning operations using a 550-ton crane took place throughout the day on March 23.
“This is a historic moment for Brockville General Hospital, our staff, physicians, and our entire community as we mark this major milestone with the successful installation of our MRI suite. It’s another important step forward in our mission to provide MRI services at Brockville General this spring and in our commitment to continue modernizing to meet the future healthcare needs of our community,” said Nick Vlacholias, President and CEO, of Brockville General Hospital.
With the installation complete, the MRI suite will now be connected to hospital infrastructure such as electrical and plumbing.
The next major milestone for the project is the arrival of the MRI scanner later in April. The project remains on track to have the MRI in operation this spring.
MRI imaging can help physicians provide early diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions, often eliminating the need for other tests. This means faster and better care, ultimately improving an individual’s quality of life.
Investing in modern tools and technologies, like an MRI, provides healthcare workers at Brockville General with the right tools and technology to confidently deliver the best patient care.
