Front of Yonge Announces Business Awards Winners at Breakfast on Friday

Mallorytown – The Township of Front of Yonge (FOY) announced the winners of this year’s Business Awards at the FOY Business of the Year Awards Breakfast held on Friday morning, April 12th at the Mallorytown Legion.

The award for Business of the Year went to owners Ellen and Corey Roth of Corell Custom Cabinetry and Ballycanoe Naturals, owned by Christina and Darrell Connell received the New Business of the Year Award.

Corell Custom Cabinetry, now in its 27th year of business, is a family business that provides complete service in the design, manufacturing and installation of a wide range of cabinetry, all done locally. The company prides itself on customer service, contributing much of its success to word-of-mouth referrals

The Roth family has contributed to a variety of community causes including playground equipment for Front of Yonge School, Front of Yonge Firefighters, children’s soccer, and the Village Fair. Most notably Corell built an outstanding display for the Mallory Coach House, celebrating the first glassworks in Canada.

New Business of the Year, Ballycanoe Naturals, is a family-run beekeeping business, currently operating about 100 hives within the area. Now in its fifth year, the business has grown its product lines to include natural beeswax products and new beekeeping services. The Connell family participates in several local events and are generous donors to the community. They champion local businesses and look for ways to collaborate and support.

Local artist Eda Brown designed this year’s awards.  The winners also received certificates from MP Michael Barrett and MPP Steve Clark.

The guest speaker was Charlie Mignault, St. Lawrence Corridor Economic Development Commission who provided an update on the commission’s work.

Other Business of the Year nominees included: Artfully Recycled, Cruisin’ Auto Sales, Flowerbuds Professional Gardening, KRC Welding, Lisa’s Place Family Hair Care, Mallorytown Pharmacy, Rock Island Campground, Skyward Active Health Centre, and X-Treme Snowplowing & Lawncare.

Other nominees for New Business of the Year included: Rock Cliff Bakery, Wise Line Building Products and 1000 Islands CNC Plasma Designs.

Mayor Roger Haley thanked the Planning Committee (Mike Purcell, Elain Covey and Councillor Margaret Fancy) and congratulated all the nominees and winners. He also expressed appreciation to the many businesses that donated door prizes for the event.
