Brockville – John Taylor the driving force on the Brock Trail committee as Chair passed away this week.
“The Brock Trail would not be the jewel of an asset it is today, to be enjoyed by so many people, were it not for John’s determination and leadership,” said Brockville Mayor Matt Wren on Friday on his Facebook page.
After graduation, John and his wife Marion married and moved to Brockville, where he started his new job at Parke Davis. This move was to be “just for a year or two” but was more than 53 years ago. Brockville became the home that they loved and where they raised their 3 children, Kimberley, Christine and Michael.
John went to Queens University for his MBA. This would change the course of his career as he graduated and became the owner-pharmacist first of Maxi Drug in Brockville, then Delta Community Pharmacy and finally of Brockville Pharmasave. Working as a local pharmacist allowed him to spend every day working with the communities he loved.
John worked tirelessly at giving back to his community, notably through his many years of work with BACLA, the Canadian Diabetes Association, the United Way and of course the Brock Trail.
Brockville Mayor Wren posted on his Facebook page earlier today saying, “If you were to personify the term ‘Pillar of the Community’, or ‘Model Citizen’, I believe the result would be someone like the incomparable John Taylor. Like so many in our community, Dana and I were shocked and saddened over his tragic passing recently. As a gesture to recognize the unending contributions of this community leader, and to honour John’s life, City flags will be flying at half-mast over the weekend.”
“On behalf of the City of Brockville and my own family, I wish to extend sympathies to Marion, John’s children, grandchildren, relatives and many, many friends. May his memory be a blessing.” the Mayor continued.

For those of you wishing to make donations in John’s honour, the family asks that you please consider the Brockville & Area Food Bank (www.brockvilleandareafoodbank.ca/donate/) or any charity that is meaningful to you. This summer they will also be organizing donations to one of John’s favourite projects, the Brock Trail.
