Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame Announces 10 New Inductees

Plus Finalists for Sportsperson of the Year, Sports Team of the Year as well as Coach and Volunteer of the Year Awards!

Brockville – The Brockville and Area Sports Hall of Fame has announced ten new inductees for the hall of fame, with five being inducted posthumously.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame.

Being inducted this year are:

  • JoAnne Bell – founder and head coach of Brockville Gymnastics Academy/Brockville Gymny Krickets.
  • Dave Campbell – the physiotherapist to the Canadian Olympic Medical Team and Commonwealth Games.
  • Phil Patterson – Prescott and Eastern Ontario golfer
  • Kim Sauve – high school basketball coach
  • Gloria (Lor) Spoden – figure skater

For the 30th anniversary of the Hall of Fame, there are five being posthumously inducted:

  • Rodger Doner – Olympic wrestler and sailor
  • Terry Halpenny – hockey stats man
  • Jeff Kyle – Ottawa Senators’ original
  • Neil “Q” McHugh – longtime sports announcer
  • Barb Sayeau – athlete-coach

The inductees will be honoured at the Kinsmen Award Banquet on Thursday, June 13 at the Memorial Centre with the actual induction ceremony to take place on Friday, June 14 at the Memorial Centre.

The five finalists for Sportsperson of the Year are:

  • Matt Billings
  • Neil Condron
  • Travis Gaffney
  • Farah Steacy
  • Annie Tremblay

The five finalists for Sports Team of the Year are:

  • Brockville Blazars U14 boys Basketball team
  • Brockville Legion Track & Field Club U18 boys xc & distance team
  • St. Lawrence Rapids Speedskating Club
  • TISS Boys Hockey team
  • TISS Sr. Boys Basketball team

The Volunteer of the Year Award is going to Prescott’s Rose Williams and Ritchie Welch of Athens as co-recipients.

The Coaching Award is going to Jason Crotty.

They will all be honoured at the Kinsmen Award Banquet being held on Thursday, June 13 at the Memorial Centre.

Tickets for the awards night will be going on sale at a number of city and area locations with details to be announced before the end of the month.

There will be only 200 tickets being sold for the awards night and the deadline for sales will be in early June.
