Brockville – Police reports from the Brockville Police Service from May 31st and June 1st, 2024.
The Brockville Police Service had another busy weekend. On Friday, May 31, 2024, the Brockville Police Service received an unprecedented 85 calls for service in the 24-hour period. The remainder of the weekend totalled 162 calls for service. During these calls’ officers made seven arrests, and laid 23 criminal charges and six traffic-related charges. The following is some of the information.
Impaired Driving
On May 31, 2024, at about 9:30 pm, police observed a vehicle in the area of Henry Street parking lot leaving towards Water Street, without headlights on. As the vehicle drove away, the driver squealed the tires. Police stopped the vehicle and identified the driver to be a 23-year- old, male. Alcohol consumption was suspected and a roadside breath sample was taken for testing purposes, which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and taken for further testing that confirmed the driver was impaired and operating over the legal limit. The vehicle was impounded, the driver’s licence suspended and the driver was released with conditions and a future court date. The driver was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80mg.
Assault Charge Laid in a Family Dispute
On June 1, 2024, at about 9:00 am, police received a 911 call regarding a dispute at a residence on Park St. Investigation revealed that a 31-year-old, male was living at a residence with his sibling who was acting as a surety on the male subject’s bail. A dispute between the two started over the subject wanting to leave the residence. This escalated to the point that the male subject threatened to harm his sibling and then open hand slapped them across the face. The male subject was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of uttering threats and assault.
Male Subject Attempts to Flee from Court House After Sentencing
On May 31, 2024, at about 11:00 am, a 37-year-old, male appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville, to receive his sentencing in relation to the charges of Impaired driving and uttering threats. Once sentenced to a term of custody, the male attempted to flee from the Court House. Special Constables were able to give chase and contain the subject. He was taken into custody and additionally charged with escaping lawful custody. He was then transported to the Brockville Jail.
