
Ottawa – The Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 416 South, near Roger Stevens late Wednesday afternoon.
Police say that shortly before 3:30 p.m. on June 5, 2024, a collision occurred between a transport truck and a Ministry of Transportation (MTO) blocker truck. The impact resulted in the vehicles catching fire. The driver of the transport truck was transported by air ambulance and is expected to have life-altering injuries but is in stable condition. The driver of the MTO vehicle was transported by ambulance to the hospital and is in stable condition.
Highway 416 southbound was closed at Bankfield Rd. for several hours while the cause of the collision was being investigated. OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) and Reconstructionists were on the scene and the MTO had a detour in place for motorists.
The Southbound lanes on Highway 416 at Bankfield reopened around 2:50 am this morning according to OPP.
