Thursday Night, Sports Person of the Year, Sports Team of the Year and Volunteer of the Year Awards Handed Out!
Brockville – The 30th anniversary of the Brockville and Area Sports Hall of Fame was held last Thursday, June 13th and Friday, June 14th at the Brockville Memorial Centre.
On Thursday, the Brockville Kinsmen Sports Hall of Fame Dinner was held where the Sports Person of the Year, Sports Team of the Year, Coach of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards were handed out.

Sports Person of the Year was awarded to Special Olympic Athlete Neal Condron.
The Sports Team of the Year Award went to the Brockville Legion Track & Field U18 Boys Distance team.
The Coaching of the Year Award went to Jason Crotty who coaches the Brockville Blazers and TISS Basketball teams.
The Volunteer of the Year Award went to Rose Williams with Prescott Minor Hockey and Ritchie Welch with Athens Minor Hockey and Figure Skating.
As well on Thursday, the ten new inductees were honoured:
- Jo Ann Bell – Founder of What is now Brockville Gymnastics Academy
- Dave Campbell – Trainer for Montreal Canadians, Montreal Alouettes and other Montreal sports teams
- Rodger Doner – Two-time Olympic Wrestler (Posthumously)
- Terry Halpenny – Historian for Brockville Braves (Posthumously)
- Jeff Kyle – One of Brockville Connection to bring Senators to Ottawa (Posthumously)
- Neil McHugh – Brockville Braves Announcer (Posthumously)
- Phil Patterson – Prescott Golf Champion
- Kim Sauve – Longtime Coach for St. Mary High School
- Barb Sayeau – Pioneer in Women’s Hockey – Her # 3 jersey for the Brockville Islanders was retired. (Posthumously)
- Gloria (Lor) Spoden – Figure Skating Ice Capades
On Friday, the ten were officially inducted into the Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame, with many past hall of famers in attendance.
