Brockville – The Brockville Bunnies had four games scheduled for over the weekend. Both Saturday’s games in Cornwall against the Reds Academy Black were rained out.
On Sunday the Bunnies hosted the 613 Kings at Jack Giffin Field at Fulford Park. They came away with both wins in the doubleheader with an improved overall record of 13-12-1.
“Both teams were a little sloppy defensively and on the bases but were saved by some strong pitching by both sides” the Bunnies posted on their Facebook page.
In game 1 the Bunnies beat the Kings 9-5. Brockville was behind 5-3 in the fifth inning but scored four times and tacked on two runs in the sixth for the win.
Cohen Gill went 4.1 innings giving up 3 earned runs while missing his spots on occasion when ahead of hitters making it tough on himself to go longer. Ryan Crotty got the win with 2.2 innings of shutdown relief giving up zero runs with 6 strikeouts. Crotty looks more impressive every time out on the mound.
Noah Deryaw had 2 hits including a home run to deep right while Ryan Robinson had a pair of singles with Andon Gill and Ben Buxton each doubling. Singles by Hunter Sanger and Wyatt Last.
In game 2 the Bunnies won 4-1 with Charlie Todd going 6 solid innings and giving up 2 hits with 9 strikeouts. Jack LaBrash with a clean and tidy 7th inning for the save.
Sanger had a double and deep homerun to left, while Mattie Barkley tripled and singled. There were also single hits by Ethan Pert, A. Gill and Robinson.
The Brockville Bunnies travel to Plattsburgh NY for a tournament starting this Thursday. The Bunnies will play Adrean Post of Utica on Thursday at 3 pm. On Friday starting at 5:30 pm the Bunnies play the host team Clinton County Mariners.
The Brockville Bunnies wrap up round robin portion of the tourney on Saturday facing the Montreal Titans at 12:30 pm.
The twelve-team tourney will see the top 6 making the playoff round with the other six playing exhibition games, so the Bunnies are guaranteed a fourth game.
