Brockville – The President of the Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce, Steven Latimer announced on Thursday that the recipient of this year’s President’s Award is Bruce Wylie.
The President’s Award introduced in 2009 is an optional award that can be handed out at the discretion of the current Chamber President each year. Bruce Wylie is the ninth recipient of this award.
“Bruce has been a part of our community and lives for over half a century. Starting with CFJR in 1971, Bruce has been the voice of Brockville which most of us have grown up with. As the times have changed, Bruce is the one constant that we can all rely on and brings our community together in the best of times and worst.” said the media release.
On Thursday morning the Chamber’s Executive Director Pamela Robertson and Chamber President Steve Latimer surprised Bruce on the radio by announcing he was the recipient of this year’s President’s Award.
“His commitment to the community is seen everywhere we turn. From the beginning with the Bruce Wylie Golf tournament to Riverfest, Sports Hall of Fame, Music and Arts Hall of Fame and the Palliative Care Telethon, Bruce has always had his mind on volunteering and recognizing people and organizations in our community. Bruce Wylie was the Citizen of the Year for the Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce in 1989.”

Bruce Wylie will be recognized at the 65th Awards of Excellence Gala being held on Thursday, September 19 at the Brockville Country Club.
In the next couple of weeks, the chamber will also be announcing the recipients for: Business of The Year, Small Business of the Year, Community Excellence Award, the Tourism Award and the Ben TeKamp Award.
