Brockville – The Brockville Fire Department’s (BFD) first ‘Belles & Ladders Girls Firefighter Camp was held this week, starting on Wednesday and finishing up today, Friday at BFD’s Station #2.
This is the first of its kind in Brockville. Fire Chief Melanie Jones ran a similar camp when she was with the Kingston Fire & Rescue.

Cait Driscoll, the lone female firefighter at the Brockville Fire Department said it was a great idea to encourage and inspire more females to join the Brockville Fire Department.
Over the three days, the girls learned various firefighting skills, teamwork and a taste of what it would be like if they chose firefighting as a career.
The goals of the camp are to inspire young women to consider a career in the fire service, but more importantly to be empowered, and to have the confidence to believe they can achieve any goal they set their minds to.
This week’s firefighter camp has gone so well that they hope to make it an annual event.
