Spring Valley – The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two individuals with a combined 23 charges as a result of several investigations.
On August 28, 2024, shortly after 3:30 a.m., Leeds County OPP officers were called to investigate suspicious activity at a golf course just north of Spring Valley.
Upon arrival, officers observed two individuals occupying a parked pick-up truck. It was determined that the vehicle had been stolen and the two occupants were taken into custody without incident.
Officers seized drug paraphernalia, break-in tools and footwear belonging to the accused.
It was learned later in the day that another vehicle had been abandoned at the same golf course and that another business in the area had reported that five of their vehicles were damaged overnight. The investigation determined that the incidents were connected.
A 51-year-old woman from Ottawa and a 43-year-old man from Brockville have each been charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – two counts
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Trespassing at night
- Theft of over $5,000 of a motor vehicle
- Mischief – destroy or damage property – six counts
The man is also facing the additional charge of obstructing a peace officer.
Both accused were remanded into custody following their bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville.
Over the past few months, several golf courses within Leeds County were victim of break-ins. The investigation into connections to previous golf courses is continuing.
