Brockville – The City of Brockville issued an update for the Youth Arena project phase 1 this week. They say it is nearing completion.
As part of the 2024 Capital Budget, City Council approved funds to replace several critical components of the ice-making plants at both the Youth Arena and Memorial Center.
The city said the objective of the projects was to ensure reliable operations of both facilities ‘ ice-making capabilities in place of construction of the anticipated Multi-Use Recreational Facility.
Phase 1 of the Youth Arena project was the replacement of the ice plant condenser which had been identified as at risk of failure due to its age. The old unit had been removed and the new unit was installed.
The city said with the new condenser in place, staff built the ice at the Youth Arena this week. Staff have been building ice, painting the lines, installing team logos, servicing the Olympia ice resurfacer then delivering it to the Youth Arena the city said in a statement on their Facebook page.
They said staff will be working through the weekend to be ready and look forward to the first teams of the season hitting the ice at the Youth Arena on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
Building ice at the Youth Arena is annually scheduled for the day following Labour Day. Ice at the Memorial Center was installed in early August.
