23rd Anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks in New York

Each year on 9/11 in New York, the nearly 3,000 victims of the terrorist attacks that took place in the United States on September 11, 2001, are remembered.

On Sept. 11, 2001, hijacked planes hit the World Trade Center in New York City, the U.S. Pentagon and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, killing 2,977 people and left thousands of bereaved relatives and scarred survivors.

It is not a national holiday and seeing as it is deeply emotional for many people, it is a very sombre day. Every September 11 in New York there are several special ceremonies to remember the World Trade Center attacks.

It had an immediate and profound impact on Canada. Twenty-four Canadians died in what became known as the “9/11” attacks. When the US closed its airspace, hundreds of planes carrying thousands of passengers were diverted to Canadian airports.
