Godfrey – The expansion Westport Lumberjacks played in their first-ever game against the Frontenac Phantoms on Friday night in the first game of the Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League’s (EOSHL) 2024-25 season in Godfrey.
They came away blanking the Phantoms 9-0. The Lumberjacks outshot the Phantoms 46 to 41 during the game.
In the first period, Westport’s Kylan Tavares (#55) scored the first goal with an assist from Anthony Caserta (#22) to take the lead 1-0 at the end of the first.
The Lumberjacks would go on to score four more in the second period on goals by #15 Tyler Murphy (#11 William Inoue, #29 Maverick Labrie), #11 William Inoue (#15 Tyler Murphy, #29 Maverick Labrie), #71 Jayden Boyer (#13 Devon Burns, #4 Calvin Wheatley), and #22 Anthony Caserta (#7 Evgeni Petrenko, #5 Jake Mcarthur).
In the third period, four more for Westport on goals from #13 Devon Burns (#11 William Inoue, #15 Tyler Murphy), #9 Brennan Revell (#12 Alex Echlin, #24 Andrew Dekroon), #13 Devon Burns (#44 Jordan Ribbink, #4 Calvin Wheatley) and the final goal by #55 Kylan Tavares (#7 Evgeni Petrenko, #8 Craig Cross) his second goal of the game.
The Lumberjacks are still on the road as their next game is set for Saturday, September 21st facing the Smiths Falls Rideaus at the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre. The puck drops at 7:30 pm.
Westport’s first home game is on Saturday, September 28th when they host the Deseronto Bulldogs.
