Brockville – This week is Fire Prevention Week October 6-12, 2024 and the Brockville Fire Department along with fire departments across Leeds & Grenville want to bring this year’s campaign “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!™ to you.
This year’s campaign strives to educate everyone about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home.
Did you know you could have as little as two minutes to get out safely once the smoke alarm sounds? Working smoke alarms give you early warning so you can get outside safely.
FACT: working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half.
By law, smoke alarms are required on every level of your home and outside all sleeping areas. If your home was built after 2014 they are also required in bedrooms. We recommend that every bedroom have a smoke alarm regardless of when your home was built.
For the best protection, consider interconnected smoke alarms in your home. When one alarm sounds, they all sound.
