Westport – The Gananoque Islanders and the Westport Lumberjacks faced each other on Saturday in EOSHL action with the Islanders winning 7-3 over the Lumberjacks.
It was back and forth in the first period. Westport’s Maverick Labrie with an assist from Alexander Kidd scored first in the first period. Then Tye Carswell with assists from Jack Wiley, and Aidan Harris would tie it up on his goal for Gananoque.
The Lumberjacks would respond on a goal by Kylan Tavares with assists from Devon Burns and Tyler Murphy to take a 2-1 lead.
Then at just 40 seconds left in the first, Islander’s Kevin Domingue with assists from Graeme Brown and Ryan Pawlikowski would tie the game at 2-2 at the end of the period.
In the second period, Gananoque would score three more goals from Justynn Steven (Aidan Harris), Warren Marcotte (Curtis Marrison, Tye Carswell) and Aidan Harris (Justynn Steven, Graeme Brown) to take a 5-2 lead.
Logan Collette (Alexander Kidd, Jake Mcarthur) would score one more goal for the Islanders on the powerplay near the end of the second.
Gananoque would go on to pick up two more goals in the third to win the game 7-3.
The Islanders outshot the Lumberjacks 53 to 31 during the game.
Westport will host the Frontenac Phantoms this Saturday starting at 3:00 pm, while Gananoque will travel to Lindsay Saturday night to face the Barncats. The puck drops there at 7:30 pm.
