Maitland – In a fitting celebration of Small Business Week, four local businesses have received $1000 each to assist them in implementing the business plan that they created during the Starter Company Plus program. The awards were provided by Community Futures Grenville.

“At Community Futures Grenville, we believe in local small businesses, and in particular, helping new entrepreneurs get their start,” said Mitch Bloom, Chair of Community Futures Grenville. “We know how hard they worked to create strong business plans during their time in Starter Company Plus. This award will help them build a solid foundation as they put their plan into action.”

Community Futures Grenville is one of 62 organizations in rural Ontario that deliver the Community Futures Program. They offer business loans, and business advisory services and work with local partners to deliver community economic development programs. The Community Futures Program in Southern Ontario is funded by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).

Starter Company Plus is an 8-week program offered by Leeds Grenville Small Business. It is available to entrepreneurs working full-time in their businesses or with a plan to achieve this. Throughout the program, participants receive business coaching and mentoring, training on key aspects of operating a small business, and are guided through a full business planning process.

The businesses receiving the award are:

  • Kim Matthew, Drinks in Tow
  • Ray Heffernan, Ray Heffernan Photography
  • Connor Wilhelm, Wilhelm’s Manual Osteopathy
  • Alyssa Gallant, Monday Nutrition

The awards were presented at the Bridges to Better Business event, an annual celebration of small business and opportunity for learning, organized by Leeds Grenville Small Business.
