Maitland – The Township of Augusta and the Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee hosted the 2024 Business of the Year Awards Breakfast on Friday, November 1st, at the Maitland Education & Recreation Centre (MERC).

Awards were given out for Business of the Year, New Business of the Year Award and Agri-Sector Business of the Year.
As well a Special Legacy Award was awarded to Augusta Motor Sales Ltd.
Guest speakers were Pamela Robertson with the Brockville & District Chamber of Commerce and Kevin Spencer with the South Grenville Chamber who were asked 5 questions.
The winner of the 2024 Business of the Year was Beattie Dukelow Electrical Inc. Beattie Dukelow Electrical was started in Spencerville in 2012 and moved to their new location in Maynard at the end of 2023. The other nominee for Business of the Year was Augusta Motor Sales Ltd. The Business of the Year is evaluated on achievements and milestones, continuing improvements and community involvement.
The 2024 New Business of the Year Award went to Creekside Kids Secondhand. Sarah Ball started the business in early 2024. Creekside Kids Secondhand offers secondhand children’s clothing through Instagram and has gathered a large following in the online community. The other nominee for New Business of the Year was Dairy Bar & Western Grill.
The New Business of the Year recognizes an entrepreneur who has launched a business in the last 1 to 5 years. This award is evaluated on key business results, sustainability, and community involvement.
A new award for 2024 is the Agri-Sector Business of the Year award which recognizes outstanding achievements that have made a positive impact on Augusta’s agriculture industry.
The winner of this award is Spot On Hoof Trimming, a 5-year-old business originally founded in Cobden and Shawville and now settled in the Maynard area, supplies local and non-local farmers with hoof care for dairy, beef and homestead cattle. The other nominees for Agri-Sector Business of the Year were Ashby Farms and Heartbeet Farm.
As well a Special Legacy Award was awarded to Augusta Motor Sales Ltd. Owner John Van Schie is retiring after operating the 49-year-old business he took over from his father for the last 20 years. The motor sales and repair business is well-known and respected in the area.
