Suspect Charged with Fraud by OPP After Attempting to Defraud Local Car Dealership

Brockville – A 29-year-old Verdun, Québec man is facing fraud charges after a Leeds County OPP investigation revealed a fraudulent document had been provided to purchase a vehicle at a car dealership near Brockville.

Police say the investigation, led by the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), began on November 11, 2024, when an employee of the dealership reported that they had received a down payment for a vehicle with identification that did not match the prospective buyer.

Officers met with the alleged buyer at the dealership on November 12, 2024, where he was placed under arrest and charged.

Zineb ROUMANI, age 29 of Verdun, Québec, was charged with:

• Fraud over $5,000
• Personation with intent to obtain property (identity fraud)
• Obtaining by false pretence over $5,000
• Drawing documents without authority
• Identity theft – obtain or possess another person’s identity information
• Forgery
• Uses, deals, or acts on a forged document

Police say the accused was released after a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville the next morning and is scheduled to appear before the court again on December 20, 2024.
