Brockville – At last week’s Brockville City Council meeting councillors heard a delegation from Sherri Fournier Hudson, Executive Director of the Upper Canada Family Health Team and George Smitherman of Health Workforce Innovations Inc. on the topic of Physician Recruitment and the status of health human resources in Leeds and Grenville.
They spoke to the current risks and challenges including an aging patient population and retirements amongst current health care staff and proposed a path toward increasing recruitment of health care workers to Brockville and surrounding areas.
Some of the proposals include:
Four Joint Services parties contract Health Workforce Innovations for 3 years to immediately fire up recruitment efforts while undertaking the development of a sustainable plan for Health Human Resources,
United Counties and Brockville, Gananoque and Prescott Councils commit to prioritizing Health Human Resources and collaborate with Health Workforce Innovations to build connection and support from all corners of the County in favour of an “all–community” approach and
All parties collaborate with health care provider organizations including Long Term Care, Primary Care, Community Services and the Hospital Sector towards the development of a sustainable comprehensive Health Human Resources Plan.
City council considered and adopted a motion directing staff to work with local partners to develop a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the engagement with Health Workforce Innovations Inc. with the collective goal of bringing physicians and other healthcare workers to the area.
