Kemptville – Dave Brown of Brown’s Marina was honoured with the Bill Thake Memorial Award for Economic Development Leadership at the Leeds Grenville Economic Development Summit held on Friday in Kemptville.

For over forty years, Dave bestowed resources to the economic development and heritage preservation in the Township of Rideau Lakes. He has played a pivotal role in revitalizing Chaffeys Lock, a picturesque section of the Rideau Canal UNESCO World Heritage Site. His work includes experience with the Chaffeys Lock and Area Heritage Society preserving the Community Hall, a hub for events vital to the village’s economic and social vitality.

Dave has contributed to increasing the number of skilled trade certifications by setting curriculum and training standards for boat motor mechanics through his work with the Ontario College of Trades (now called Skilled Trades Ontario). His expertise and leadership in the boating industry have earned him recognition from Boating Ontario.

“Receiving this award has rejuvenated me. Seeing what my community partners, neighbours, colleagues, fellow board members and various agencies have achieved by working together jointly, is not only heartwarming but re-inspired me to continue to push for change going forward,” said Dave. “It’s an unbelievable honour to receive this award, especially when you look at the people who got this award before me.”

The award is also called the Warden’s Award and was introduced in 2011. It recognizes and celebrates a volunteer who has shown outstanding commitment and leadership resulting in the growth and vitality of the Leeds Grenville economy. Dave Brown is the 20th recipient of this prestigious award.

The Economic Development Summit event featured keynote addresses from the Hon. Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification and Pierre Cléroux, Chief Economist and Vice President, Research from BDC along with presentations on new investments in the region.
