Media Release – Brockville – The Brockville Winter Classic Weekend announced on Wednesday new initiatives, and information on the 2025 event and brings back the Christmas Raffle.
Since its inception in 2015, the Brockville Winter Classic has worked tirelessly to support the revitalization of Rotary Park. Originally formed to contribute to the park’s ongoing improvements, the Brockville Winter Classic has played a pivotal role in enhancing the skating facility and bringing the dream of a hockey facility that could be used for a lengthened season. What started as a lighthearted effort to “pay for the nuts and bolts” of the roof has evolved into a multi-year fundraising campaign, resulting in significant upgrades at the park.
Key accomplishments include the installation of a new board system, improved sound and lighting, and the 2018 partnership with P&G, which led to the construction of the P&G Pavilion. This pavilion, complete with changerooms, washrooms and a canteen, has helped establish Rotary Park as a premier outdoor recreational facility, all while keeping usage free for Brockville and area citizens.
As the Rotary Park Revitalization nears completion, the Brockville Winter Classic is focused on final touches, such as the installation of a concrete pad around the rink and accessible seating areas, which is in the final stage of completion currently. These additions will make the facility more inclusive and suitable for official hockey games and the many other events and facility usage opportunities presented due to the upgrades the park has received.
Exciting New Partnership for the 2024-2025 Season:
The committee is thrilled to announce a new partnership with the Brockville Angels and the Brockville Minor Hockey Association. The Brockville Winter Classic has agreed to financially assist local families and increase participation in youth hockey.
Starting with the 2024-2025 season, the Winter Classic will subsidize the U7 program, providing young athletes with the opportunity to experience the joy of hockey Looking forward, the initiative aims to expand with an equipment exchange program and additional financial support opportunities to ensure that as children grow and competition
costs rise, and all families can afford to keep their kids in the game.
We are beyond excited to report the following statistics on enrollment in both organizations; a 44% increase in registration for the Brockville Minor Hockey Association and a 62% increase for the
Brockville Angels subsidize the cost to families for these introduction to hockey programs. All are made available through proceeds raised from Brockville Winter Classic activities and events.
Brockville Winter Classic Weekend – February 13-17, 2025:
In pursuit of these objectives, we are excited to announce that the Brockville Winter Classic Weekend will take place from February 13-17, 2025, during Family Day Weekend. Previously the event has welcomed Alumni from all original six NHL franchises, and last
year the 2024 NHL Alumni from the Ottawa Senators. This year in celebration of past alumni who have supported our cause we are bringing back what internally we are calling the “Winter Classic All Stars,” a collection of standout NHL alumni who have participated
in a previous BWC event, along with exciting new surprises in store.
