Prescott – A 40-year-old Prescott resident is facing numerous charges after the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit seized a large number of firearms on December 3, 2024.
OPP say that an investigation began in the Fall of 2024, resulting in the execution of search warrants on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at a residence on Wood Street in Prescott and a storage locker in Johnstown.
Police recovered over half a dozen stolen firearms, ammunition, a stolen utility trailer a stolen ATV, stolen snowblowers, stolen fishing gear as well as break-in tools.
One person, Matthew Beaton was arrested at the residence and charged with the following:
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm – six counts
- Possession of a firearm obtained by crime – six counts
- Careless storage of a firearm
- Breach of firearm regulation-store firearm – six counts
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 – 10 counts
- Possession of break-in instruments
He was held in custody and was scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on December 4, 2024.
