Brockville – Today, December 6th is The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
This day marks the tragic anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre in Montreal, where 14 women were killed by a gunman targeting female engineering students.
“This year marks the 35th anniversary of the attack, and together we will reflect and commit to taking a stand against gender-based violence and acknowledge the ongoing crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQI+ people.” said the Anti-Violence Coalition of Leeds & Grenville
This act of violent misogyny shook the country and led Parliament to designate December 6 as The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
