Brockville – Brockville police responded to multiple 911 calls on Thursday, December 12th, after a horse-drawn wagon went out of control on Front Ave. near the Lanark, Leeds, and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health.
Police say when they arrived they found that there were multiple people injured, along Front Ave. They were assisted by the Brockville Fire Department, Leeds & Grenville Paramedics and nearby citizens.
Horse-drawn wagon rides were being offered to staff and clients at a business in the area when the horses became ‘agitated, and began to run out of control’.
According to Brockville Police Inspector, Darryl Boyd, the horses and wagon struck a parked vehicle and then continued to run westbound on Front Ave., with some of the passengers being thrown out of the wagon, to the ground.
“The horses continued to run towards Stewart Blvd. and then down Eleanor St., into a wooded area. There, the horses became tangled in some trees, allowing control to be gained. The horses were uninjured in this incident.” Boyd said.
In total, police say there were eight individuals taken to the hospital for varying levels of injuries, with all injuries considered as non-life-threatening.
“The Brockville Police Service is thankful for everyone who came to assist, in this unfortunate incident,” said Boyd.
