VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Brockville Braves Won Both Weekend Games in CCHL

Brockville – The Brockville Braves won both of their CCHL games over the weekend. They beat the Smiths Falls Bears 2-1 in overtime on Friday at the Memorial Centre and won a 3-2 decision over the Carleton Place Canadians on Sunday in Carleton Place.

The Braves will be going for three (3) wins in a row when they host the Kemptville 73s on a rare Thursday night home game this week.

Sunday’s Game:

With a flair for the dramatic, The Lamplighter aka Jesse Lumsden does it again!

Lumsden scores in the last minute to break the tie and give the Braves a 3-2 win over division-leading Carleton Place Canadians. The Lamplighter didn’t wait for overtime on Sunday, he settled it in regulation, albeit, in the last minute.

I must confess I was not at the game and saw only the first two periods on FloHockey. I was driving home during the 3rd period but you can bet your Bibby, Colleen as copilot had the game on my iPhone, and no, I did not veer off the road when she relayed to me that Jesse Lumsden scored.

In addition to the call on Lumsden’s goal, Carleton Place PxP guy, Zach Beamish, made mention of the effort of Kellen Dostaler on Liam “Dirty” Harry’s goal and the fantastic debut by Nate Gillis in the Braves nets.

You can throw a blanket over the top 5 teams in the Robinson division.

Friday Night’s Game:

It was looking dark but then “The Lamplighter” illuminated the Madhouse on Magedoma!

Yes, for the 2nd week in a row (and 3rd time this season) Jesse “The Lamplighter” Lumsden scored the OT winner. Early in the overtime the Bears cruised in over the Braves blueline but Lumsden stripped the puck carrier and he and Grady Spicer reversed the rush in a 2-on-1 over the Bear’s blueline.

With the crafty Spicer as a perfect decoy, The Lamplighter undressed the lone Bears defender with a neat toe drag and then blasted the winner past Ethan Morrow.

Peter Legostaev sported an early 1 – 0 lead for the Braves in the 1st period on a goal that bore a strong resemblance to a fade-away jump shot as he stepped back in the slot. Alexandre Côté did the spade work getting the puck out to Legostaev.

Caeden Heins, the ex-Oshawa General, cast an all too familiar hush on the building as he scored late in the 3rd to tie the game up.

Although there was minimal scoring in this game there was not a drought of excellent scoring chances. It was the strong goaltending of both Trey Caracciolo and Ethan Morrow that kept the score low.

How about all those blocked shots and tight back-checking by the Braves? We did get to see that blistering shot of newcomer Vital Denis who was slotted in with his ol’ Pembroke pal Ryan McNally.

The scratches list is almost as long as the actual lineup. We are very fortunate to have a strong contingent of APs who are doing yeoman service.

Bottom line, it was “The Lamplighter”, Jesse Lumsden who ended the game in OT giving the Braves the 2-1 win.
