Dan Downey Appointed Elizabethtown-Kitley Councillor

New Dublin – Dan Downey was appointed Councillor for Elizabethtown-Kitley Township, filling the vacant spot left when Tom Linton announced his resignation from council in October.

Downey was officially sworn in during a ceremony on Monday evening, marking his return to Council after serving from 2010 to 2018.

“It has been six years since I last was a member of Township Council and it is my honour to serve our residents once again,” said Downey. “My goals as Councillor remain the same: I want to pay down debt, avoid new debt, and rebuild our reserve funds. I will also support the Economic Development Committee with regards to turning the recently acquired Township lands east of County Rd. 6 and south of County Rd. 26 into industrial-zoned property and then market and sell it. I am looking forward to meeting and working with our current Township staff, and I hope that every one of the applicants for Mr. Linton’s seat on Council runs in the next election.” said Downey.

Councillor Downey’s return comes at a pivotal time as the Township focuses on strategic priorities such as sustainable growth, community development, and improving services for residents.

Council members have welcomed Downey, with Mayor Burrow highlighting the importance of having a full team in place to achieve the Township’s objectives.

“On behalf of Council, I extend a warm welcome to Councillor Downey as he joins us mid-term. We have set ourselves some ambitious goals in our Strategic Plan, and having a full complement of ‘rowers in the boat’ will help us to achieve them. On a personal note, I was especially pleased to hear Councillor Downey mention the development of our North Augusta Road property during his recent presentation as a candidate for the Council seat. I am eager to have his help in driving that type of progress forward in the Township.” said Mayor Burrow.

“The Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley looks forward to the continued contributions and leadership of Councillor Downey as they work together to accomplish their goals for the remainder of the 2022-2026 term.”
