Brockville – The St. Lawrence Rideau Immigration Partnership is undertaking a community-based research project entitled “Immigrant Experiences in Leeds and Grenville: Examining Social, Economic, and Cultural Inclusion”. This research project to learn how the partnership can improve programs and services to ensure immigrants feel included and have a sense of belonging in the community.
Funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, the Immigration Partnership is a collaboration of twenty-five plus organizations dedicated to enhancing the local community’s ability to welcome, support, and integrate immigrants. The results of the project will be published in 2025 and will be distributed to community partners and available on the Immigration Partnership website. We hope that this resource will enable organizations, communities, and individuals to create welcoming spaces for immigrants, so they continue to choose Leeds and Grenville as their home.
There are three parts to this project:
- Leeds and Grenville Immigrant Survey: This is open to all immigrants aged 18 and older who are living in Leeds and Grenville (international students, Permanent Residents, Canadian Citizens, refugees, refugee claimants, temporary residents). The survey asks demographic, multiple choice and short answer questions about your experiences. Completing the survey is voluntary and you can skip any question you do not want to answer. You do not have to include your name or contact information. When the survey is completed, you can choose to enter your name in a draw for a prize of one of four $50.00 prepaid credit cards. If you provide your name, it will not be connected to the survey answers. All responses will be anonymous and summarized in a report published by the St. Lawrence Rideau Immigration Partnership. To protect privacy, only the researchers (Loretta Corbeil, Matthew Corbeil PhD) will have access to the raw data. The survey closes on January 24.

- Participants who wish to include their contact details on the survey (which are not linked to responses), are entered into a draw for one of four $50 VISA gift cards.

- Immigrant Feedback Sessions: Some immigrants may prefer to communicate their thoughts in person so several feedback sessions will be hosted to allow for chats with the consultants in the company of other immigrants. Sessions are being scheduled, please get in touch with Loretta to take part. If you have any ideas on additional locations or groups of immigrants we should be connecting with, please let us know.
- In addition to our surveys, we have four sets of in-person immigrant feedback sessions already scheduled! Two are in Kemptville on January 13th, starting at 2 pm and 6:30 pm, respectively, at the North Grenville Municipal Centre.
On January 15th, we have another two sessions happening in Brockville, at The Employment + Education Centre! One starts at 2 pm, the other at 6:30 pm. We hope to see some of you at the sessions! More dates and locations will be coming, so stay tuned to the St. Lawrence-Rideau Immigration Partnership Facebook page for more details!
These sessions, along with the two surveys, are to gather data and feedback for our community-based research project entitled ‘Immigrant Experiences in Leeds and Grenville: Examining Social, Economic, and Cultural Inclusion’. The results of the project will be published in 2025 and will be distributed to community partners and available on the Immigration Partnership website. Our hope is that this resource will enable organizations, communities, and individuals to create welcoming spaces for immigrants, so they continue to choose Leeds and Grenville as their home.

- Leeds and Grenville Employer Survey: We want to learn more from local employers about their experiences hiring and retaining immigrant staff, in addition to their general opinions about hiring immigrants. Employers must be located in Leeds and Grenville. Please note that employers don’t need to have experience hiring immigrants to participate in the survey, it’s open to everyone. The survey closes on January 24.
