VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Braves Continue Mastery Over Colts on Friday Night

Brockville – The Brockville Braves ran their win streak over the Cornwall Colts to 3 games as they beat the Colts 7-2 in Brockville on Friday night.

Okay, I was challenged to use that verb by Howie on exiting the rink on Friday night, mea culpa. In previous meetings this year;

NOV 1 – Cornwall won 3-2 on a disputed winning goal
NOV 14 – Braves win 3-2 in overtime in Cornwall
DEC 6 – Braves win 3-2 at home

Once again a stellar all-around performance by the team. Incessant checking kept the puck in the Colt’s end of the ice a large part of the time and allowed the Braves to outshoot the Colts 46-28.

That was the official shots on goal count but my long-toothed group at the West end thought there was a lot more.

The Braves braintrust opted to dress only 11 forwards and go with 7 defence. This resulted in a myriad of permutations and combinations of line configuration and defence pairings. When they were together I particularly liked the line of Robitaille, Buller and Biniaris.

They all had a slew of scoring chances and Hunter Robitaille led that parade when he had 2 exciting scoring chances in one shift along with several others during the game.

The fans were very happy to see Garrett Nystrom return to the game after experiencing a boarding incident early in the game. Ryan Gerlich suffered an apparent hand injury midway through the game after a scramble in front of the Brockville net. Gerlich had stopped 19 of 20 shots up to that point. Nate Gillis came into the game and had 7 saves on 8 shots. Ryan Gelich did not return to the bench for the remainder of the game, there has been no update on his injury.

The frustration of the Colts culminated when they tried to intimidate rookie sensation rearguard Grady Spicer at the end of the game. Fans were bolstered when Vital Dinis jumped into the fray in support of his teammate.

The Braves will host the Ottawa Junior Senators this Friday night at the Memorial Centre. The puck drops at 7:30 pm.
