Brockville – A Death threat and other threats posted on Facebook to a healthcare professional led to a police stand-off and eventual arrest of a 46-year-old man on February 3rd in Brockville.
Brockville Police say around 5:00 pm on Monday, February 3rd they received information regarding the man, who was posting specific threatening messages, publicly, on Facebook.
According to police, the messages indicated that the man was upset with his healthcare professional and expressed a desire to cause harm to the victim by killing him, among other threats and insults.
Police said they had a heightened concern for safety and located the male subject at his residence in the area of Macodrum Drive.
They made contact with the subject, who was extremely agitated, and unwilling to turn himself over to police peacefully.
The Brockville Police Service Emergency Response Team responded to the scene quickly and ensured that the individual was contained, while a warrant to enter the residence was obtained.
Police said that they attempted to negotiate with the subject at length but he did not surrender to police and he became more agitated and began making other threatening comments eluding to acts of violence.
City police called in the OPP East Region Tactics and Rescue Unit to assist in executing the warrant, and arresting the subject without incident.
Brockville Police said the man was taken to the Brockville General Hospital for a health assessment and once complete he was charged with uttering threats and held for a bail hearing.
