Town of Gananoque Declares Significant Weather Event

Gananoque – The Town of Gananoque has declared a Significant Weather Event effective Wednesday, February 12, at 10:00 pm in response to winter weather conditions that will impact travel throughout the Town of Gananoque.

This declaration is made pursuant to Ontario Regulation 239/02, Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.

This notification intends to advise that, due to current or forecasted weather conditions, residents should exercise an abundance of caution when travelling on municipally maintained roads and sidewalks as the current weather conditions will result in Town staff taking longer than usual to bring municipal streets and sidewalks back to a state of repair.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather conditions and reports issued by Environment Canada and follow updates provided by the Town of Gananoque posted on the Town’s website and social media. The Town will issue a statement when the Significant Weather Event has ended.

The following condition/warning has been issued by Environment Canada:

Hazards:

Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm.
Snow, at times heavy, with peak snowfall rates of 2 to 4 cm per hour is possible, which will significantly reduce visibilities.

When: Wednesday evening through to Thursday afternoon.

Impacts:

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas. Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.
