Brockville Chamber Announces 2025 Lifetime Business Achievement Award Recipient, Shelly Bacon

Brockville – The Brockville & District Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Mr. Shelley Bacon as the recipient of the 2025 Lifetime Business Achievement Award. Previous recipients include George Tackaberry, Larry VanderBaaren, Joe Hudson, Paul Fournier, Hunter Grant, Gord Brown, David Beatty, Bob Runciman, Al Smith, Dave Sheridan, Don Green, Sherri Simzer, John & Steve Mazurek, and Dave Jones.

This award is sponsored annually by the 1000 Islands Community Development Corporation. Recipients are chosen by an independent committee of judges following a review and assessment of multiple criteria including community involvement, mentorship, economic impact, job creation, volunteerism, longevity, and personal/corporate generosity.

Shelley Bacon and a small group of former Phillips Cables staff founded Northern Cables in Brockville in 1996. Under Shelley’s visionary leadership, the company has grown from its humble beginnings to become a major player in the industry. Now in its 29th year, Northern Cables proudly employs 300 staff and specializes in the manufacture of copper and aluminum industrial and commercial power cables for both the Canadian and United States markets.

In addition to his professional achievements, Shelley is an active member of Professional Engineers Ontario. He dedicates his time and expertise to various volunteer roles, including:

  • · Chair of the St. Lawrence Economic Corridor Commission
  • · Director of the Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health
  • · Director of Rideau St. Lawrence Science Fair Committee
  • · Volunteer on the fundraising committee for Maple View Landings (long-term care) in Athens
  • · Received an Honorary Diploma in 2020 from St. Lawrence College
  • · Received the Business Person of the Year in 2021 with the Chamber
  • · Director on the Canarm Board of Directors

Shelley resides near Smiths Falls and is the proud father of three grown children all working in the industry continuing the family legacy of dedication and hard work. His eldest daughter works with him at Northern Cables Inc.

The 1000 Islands Community Development Corporation proudly sponsors this award every year and plays a key role in selecting the recipient. Executive Director Trish McNamara extended her heartfelt congratulations, stating, “Shelley Bacon has always exemplified kindness, generosity, and humility. It is a true privilege to honour him in this manner. When asked why he goes above and beyond, Shelley simply says it is because he can and because it benefits our entire community.

Mr. Shelley Bacon will be celebrated during a special ceremony following the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting at the Brockville Country Club on Thursday, March 27th.
