VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Braves Won 5-2 Over Cornwall Thursday Night in CCHL

Cornwall – It wasn’t a typical 5-2 hockey game. It had us on the edge of our seats all game long.

The first period was dominated by the Colts and they came out of it with a 1-0 lead on a goal by Adam Walker. It was a result of a turnover in the Braves zone, as was the Colt’s second goal later in the 3rd. Those turnovers at either blueline can come back to haunt you. The Colts outshot the Braves 10-8.

The Braves picked up steam in the second period. They outshot the Colts 11 – 6. They failed to score on a breakaway, they had two goal posts and failed to score on what appeared as a gaping open net. At the other end of the rink, Ryan Gelich stood tall as he shut down Colby Lauzon on a penalty shot. Prior to that penalty shot, a Colts pass rimmed around the boards, Ryan McNally gathered it and outraced the Colts defender to backhand the puck past Chabot as he was knocked to the ice. It was all tied up at one each apiece at the end of 2.

The 3rd period belonged to the Braves. Brandon Paluszak scored off the faceoff when he fired the puck past Caleb Chabot. I have maintained year-long that he has the quickest shot release in the league. A little more than 2 minutes later, he did it again, this time after a very timely cross-ice pass from Max Treppo. Tristan Miron brought the Colts back into the game with his power-play goal just past the midway mark in the period. This time it was a failed clearing attempt that led to the turnover and the goal.

Once again Alexandre Cote was a tireless workhorse and it paid off with his empty net goal. Twelve seconds later Vital Dinis salted the game away with his 8th of the year. Dinis and Ryan McNally have proved to be quite a pair. Dinis’ goal was the result of a very unselfish pass from McNally.

Another huge game (they are all huge) tonight against the Bears. If you listened to Harper Cotie’s radio show this AM. He talked with Braves coach, Dustin R Traylen, as they discussed tonight’s game being a potential first-round matchup between the Bears and the Braves. A classic Battle of HWY 29.
