Brockville – The “cardiac kids” did it again! A thrilling 4-3 overtime win allows the Braves to tie their series with Navan at one each.
Brandon Paluszak completed a very tidy passing play with Ryan McNally and Peter Legostaev to score the overtime winner.
The Braves have the good fortune of having two very talented goaltenders Ryan Gerlich and Trey Caracciola. Last night it was Trey’s turn to shrine. There wasn’t much he could do on any of the Grad’s goals. That heartbreaking game-tying goal with 30 seconds left by Marcellino, just saw a scenario where the Braves just didn’t have enough men on the ice to cover all the opponents after the Grads pulled Gagne.
It was another solid performance up and down the lineup. This coupled with some very strategic player utilizations and combinations led to the team’s success.
It is difficult and unfair to single out any one player but the entire D corps, led by the Twin Towers (Treppo & Poudrette) played one heck of a game. In fact, Max Treppo was called “safe at home” as he slid into the Grad’s net after scoring his big goal.
The Grads pinning Captain Kellen in their net came back to haunt them as he was left all alone and broke in from centre to start the scoring for the Braves.
I think Ryan McNally has been labelled as “Peck’s Bad Boy” by the officiating community. He and Grady Spicer seem to be targeted. After three consecutive penalties in the 3rd period, the coaching staff showed their confidence in him as he played the overtime. He almost notched the winner early and then started the play that led to Paluszak winning the game.
Jesse Lumsden’s go-ahead goal midway through the 3rd was a portrayal of talent, skill and perseverance. What a great solo effort. The Braves trapped the puck in the Navan end; Lumsden grabbed the puck, and did a little spin around; then he wheeled out and around the mass of players. He culminated the superb effort by splitting their D and one more shifty move to fire the puck past Gagne.
She’s all tied up!
Game three is back in Navan on Sunday at 3:30 pm.
